Greece

In this directory, we publish information about the land of Greece, also known as the Hellenic Republic. From its ancient history to its present-day influence, Greece is part of what makes our modern civilization. The country is located in the southeastern portion of Europe, where the Aegean, Ionian, and Mediterranean Seas have kept it open to foreign visitors and, in times past, allowed it to influence trade, travel routes, and international relations. Greece is the birthplace of a theological belief system that has existed until today in the form of folklore. The Greek gods and goddesses of Olympus and their interactions with the Greek people remain as parables for the way humankind lives and works together. These stories are also the source of inspiration for popular film, television, and print entertainment. Greece is also the birthplace of democracy, the political form that inspired nation-building within the United States and around the world. Today, the country keeps its historic past visible within daily Greek life. Traditional and tasty food, such as gyros, moussaka, and baklava, are available widely, and ancient ruins are in reach of city centers, such as the Acropolis near Athens. Greece is a country with a strong rule-of-law, and it participates in worldwide leadership through the European Union and the United Nations. The country does face some challenges today economically, and it continues to work on peaceful resolutions to conflicts with its neighbor, Turkey.
