Description
During the early 1900s, the Ypsilanti School served the unincorporated town of Ypsilanti, North Dakota, while six rural schools provided educational opportunities for students in the rural areas of Ypsilanti and Corwin townships. The rural schools were discontinued in the 1940s, and students were bused to Ypsilanti. Beginning in the 1950s, due to school consolidations, Ypsilanti and township high school students were transferred to Jamestown. Finally, in 1981, the Ypsilanti School was closed for good, after which students from Ypsilanti and the surrounding townships were transferred to Jamestown or Montpelier. A history of the schools that once served Ypsilanti, and the Stutsman County townships of Ypsilanti and Corwin, is told here, including the names of superindents and teachers who served in these schools, as well as the students who attended them.
