United States
This directory collects resources on the United States of America. It is a country with a history that, while young, rivals the accomplishments of any nation in time. The U.S., known commonly as America, is located in North America south of Canada and north of Mexico. It is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean and on the west by the Atlantic. The country declared its independence on July 4, 1776 from British imperial rule and then, after winning in war with England, officially adopted its constitution in 1787. The United States' government is founded on a three-branch system: the executive, the legislative, and the judiciary. Each branch has a set of rights and responsibilities. The design is intended to allow governance to take place with flexibility, fairness, and accountability to the people of the United States. The most notable leader is the president, head of the executive branch and the individual who represents the nation as a whole. Outside of its revolutionary form of government, the United States is notable for its character. Great emphasis is placed on liberty in American culture. This is the result of many factors, including the country's founding as a rejection of British tyranny. Individuality is another important trait. This is modeled in the form of government. While Americans identify themselves with the nation, the make-up of the legislative branch represents each state. This allows citizens to express their individual and local needs. The unincorporated town of Ypsilanti, and Ypsilanti Township, are located in Stutsman County, North Dakota. The township, which was organized on March 17, 1908, shortly after the area was opened to homesteading, transacts all business for the town of Ypsilanti, as the townsite has never been officially incorporated, although it has been settled since 1882. At the time of the 2010 census, Ypsilanti Township had a population of one hundred and four, yet the townsite and township have enjoyed a long and interesting history. Ypsilanti Community Schools
During the early 1900s, the Ypsilanti School served the unincorporated town of Ypsilanti, North Dakota, while six rural schools provided educational opportunities for students in the rural areas of Ypsilanti and Corwin townships. The rural schools were discontinued in the 1940s, and students were bused to Ypsilanti. Beginning in the 1950s, due to school consolidations, Ypsilanti and township high school students were transferred to Jamestown. Finally, in 1981, the Ypsilanti School was closed for good, after which students from Ypsilanti and the surrounding townships were transferred to Jamestown or Montpelier. A history of the schools that once served Ypsilanti, and the Stutsman County townships of Ypsilanti and Corwin, is told here, including the names of superindents and teachers who served in these schools, as well as the students who attended them. more info >>
